EXXXOTICA Minneapolis 2026 brought a full seminar experience to the Minneapolis Convention Center. Topics of the programming helped educate by covering consent, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, the swinging lifestyle, sexual health, and creator business.
EXXXOTICA’s Seminar Series, sponsored by ProDx, is a major attraction at every expo to satisfy your curiosity and outline the appropriate conditions and rules. Expert panels tackled each topic as well, including How to Catch a Unicorn, hosted by alternative relationship coach and lifestyle expert, Nicole Sonnefeldt.
The EXXXOTICA Minneapolis Seminar Track
The EXXXOTICA Seminar Series ran out of two rooms, hosting everything from educational talks and workshops to audience-led AMA panels where questions were welcomed and answered by various experts and legends of the adult industry and beyond.
How the Seminars Were Organized
The panels ran all three days of EXXXOTICA, tucked into the middle of the event’s June 26–28 debut at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Some sessions were conducted as guided classes; others opened the floor for candid audience interactions. Home STI testing company ProDx sponsored the series, which bounced from relationship structures and enthusiastic consent to creator finances and testing for safe sex.

What Is ENM (Ethical Non-Monogamy)
Ethical non-monogamy, better known as ENM, is an overarching term for relationships in which everyone involved knowingly agrees to romantic or sexual connections with more than one person. Common forms include polyamory, open relationships, and swinging.
While the fun and exploration are, of course, the aim, ENM is built on consent, honesty, and agreed-upon expectations. How to Catch a Unicorn: Straight from the Unicorn’s Mouth dug into couples inviting another person into their dynamic, with Nicole Sonnefeldt tackling power imbalances, couple privilege, boundaries, and red flags.
ENM vs Monogamy
In monogamy, partners agree to romantic or sexual exclusivity; though every couple still gets to draw that line their own way. In ENM, the people involved decide which outside connections are on the table and which need to be discussed first.
Neither structure comes without loads of communication; the arrangement has to be chosen freely and understood by everyone involved.
Common Terms: Unicorn & Open Relationships
In ENM, a unicorn usually means a single person — often a bisexual woman — invited to date or play with an established couple. Sonnefeldt’s panel dug specifically into couple privilege and the power dynamics that can arise when an established pair seeks out a third.
An open relationship allows one or both partners to form connections outside the relationship which are agreed upon. Some couples keep it strictly physical; others leave room for emotional connection too. There’s no universal rule book!
Polyamory and Polycules
What is polyamory? Polyamory is the practice or possibility of having more than one romantic relationship at the same time, with everyone’s knowledge and consent.
At EXXXOTICA Minneapolis, Too Hot for Monogamy: The Truth About Polyamory & Polycules featured Edgeneer, Professor Hattrick, and Inara; a trio who brought real lifestyle experience to the stage and were connected through a mix of romantic and platonic partnerships. The panel covered jealousy, dating, boundaries, cheating, and typical etiquette.
What is a Polycule?
A polycule is a network of people connected through polyamorous relationships.
Not everyone in a polycule dates everyone else; one person might have two partners who get along great but aren’t romantically involved with each other. The network can also include spouses, long-distance partners, or purely platonic bonds.
How Polyamory Differs From Open Relationships
Polyamory usually emphasizes the possibility of multiple emotional or romantic bonds. An open relationship may focus mainly on outside sexual experiences while keeping one central romantic partnership.
Consent and Communication
Enthusiastic consent means looking for a clear, freely given “hell yes” without pressure or room for uncertainty. It also means active participation and check-ins that don’t stop after the first ask. Say It Like You Mean It: The Power of an Enthusiastic Yes, hosted by Pegstress Peggin Tha Stallion, focused on agency, boundaries, and the difference between genuine consent and performative compliance.
What Enthusiastic Consent Means
Consent should be informed, specific, voluntary, and ongoing. A person can agree to one activity without agreeing to another, and they can change their mind after saying yes.
Enthusiastic consent is active agreement with a safe space to pause, and freedom from pressure or manipulation.
Setting Boundaries
Boundaries explain what a person is comfortable with and where their lines sit. They should be discussed before an experience and respected at every stage.
A boundary is never open to negotiation, but rather to clear communication and balancing of expectations.
The Swinging Lifestyle
Swinging is a form of consensual non-monogamy centered mainly on sexual experiences with others, often explored by couples. Swinging tends to emphasize shared sexual activity rather than adding new romantic relationships to the dynamic.
Ken and Dawn’s Kasidie.com’s Guide to the Swinging Lifestyle covered clubs, parties, travel, communication, and rules. Nicole Sonnefeldt’s Playing Well with Others zoomed in on play parties: intentions, rejection, safer sex, and staying connected with a partner the whole time.
What a Play Party Is
A play party is a private or organized gathering where consensual sexual or kink activity may take place anywhere from a private home to a club, hotel, or dedicated event space. Some gatherings allow sexual activity, some are strictly kink-focused, and others keep social and play areas separate so you can ease in gradually.
Attending never creates an obligation to participate. Guests should learn the venue rules before arriving, and respect clear, ongoing consent which still applies in group and event settings.
Etiquette & Boundaries
Decent play party etiquette comes down to clear consent every step of the way. General rules include:
- Ask before touching, joining, or watching.
- Accept “no” immediately and graciously.
- Follow rules on privacy and designated spaces.
- Discuss personal boundaries and safer-sex choices before play begins.
Femdom & Power Dynamics
Femdom (short for female domination) describes a consensual power dynamic where a woman, femme, or feminine-presenting dominant calls the shots in an agreed exchange with a submissive partner.
It may involve BDSM, service, role-play, or psychological control, and it is not always sexual.
Craving Control: The Femdom AMA Panel was moderated by Nyssa Nevers, with Pegstress Peggin Tha Stallion, Mistress Mia Darque, Doc Domina, and Nomi Fatale on the panel. They dug into dominance, service, surrender, communication, and the many forms feminine domination can take.
Sexual Health & Testing
STI testing is a routine part of sexual healthcare. Still, the right tests and timing depend on factors such as age, sexual activity, partners, possible exposure, pregnancy status, and medical history.
EXXXOTICA Minneapolis held two separate Fuck Like a Pro, Test Like a Pro sessions, highlighting that testing is an integral part of play and sexual antics. The format turned an often awkward conversation into something people could relate to and felt comfortable discussing.
Why Regular Testing Matters
Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can occur without noticeable symptoms. Testing helps people learn their status and seek treatment when needed, allowing for safer interactions either with their partners or during any sexual act.
Where to Get Tested
Testing may be available through a primary care provider, sexual health clinic, community clinic, public health department, or another licensed service. Choose a qualified provider who offers confidential testing and explains which infections are being tested for. Anyone with symptoms, a known exposure, or questions about timing should contact a healthcare professional. Regular testing should be done before any new interaction to ensure that all participants are safe!
The Business Side for Creators
The creator-business track covered taxes, deductions, recordkeeping, and LLC formation for aspiring adult industry professionals and those curious about the admin side of adult entertainment.
The Business of the Body was presented by Mia Lee, CPA, and Nate Mallory, Esq., co-founders of Floorplay Financial. Their session tackled industry-specific tax and business questions, giving content creator taxes a pragmatic spot on the program.
